Welfare First: Breeders must prioritize the physical and mental well-being of all animals in their care. All dogs must be provided with adequate housing, nutrition, exercise, and veterinary attention.
No Commercial Wholesaling: Breeders must not supply dogs to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet shops, or puppy mills, nor offer dogs as prizes in raffles or competitions.
2. Breeding Practices
TL;DR Summary
Health-based breeding only. Minimum 12 months, maximum 9 years at whelping. No 1st-degree inbreeding. No culling. 8-week transfer lock enforced.
Health-Based Breeding: A dam should only be bred if she is in excellent physical health and condition.
Minimum Age Limit: To prevent the abuse of juvenile dogs, Registra software enforces a minimum breeding age. A bitch must be at least twelve (12) months old at the time of mating.
Maximum Age Limit: To protect maternal health, Registra software automatically enforces senior age limits. A bitch must not be bred if she will be 9 years of age or older at the time of whelping.
Incest Prohibition: Breeders must not practice 1st-degree inbreeding. The mating of full siblings, or a parent to its direct offspring, is strictly prohibited and will be blocked by the platform.
No Culling: Healthy puppies must never be culled. Puppies that do not conform to breed standards, or those from accidental litters, must be placed in suitable, loving homes.
The 8-Week Transfer Lock: Registra aligns with global kennel standards requiring puppies to remain with their dam until they are eight (8) weeks old. To enforce this without requiring manual veterinary verification, the Registra platform is hard-coded to prevent the digital transfer of any puppy profile or Registration Certificate to a buyer until the puppy is exactly 56 days old.
3. Veterinary Health & Identification
TL;DR Summary
Vaccinations and deworming before leaving breeder. Mandatory ISO-compliant microchip. Absolute transparency on health tests and genetic conditions.
Vaccinations & Deworming:Breeders must ensure that all puppies receive age-appropriate deworming and their first round of veterinary inoculations (vaccines) prior to leaving the breeder's care.
Mandatory Identification:Every puppy must be permanently identified with a valid, ISO-compliant microchip before leaving the breeder's premises and before its Registra profile is digitally transferred.
Absolute Transparency: While Registra does not mandate specific genetic tests, breeders must practice absolute transparency. Any and all health tests performed (or known genetic conditions) must be honestly and proactively disclosed to the buyer in writing.
4. Sales & Client Responsibilities
TL;DR Summary
Vet buyer homes. Lifetime commitment to take dogs back if needed. Inform buyers of Registra platform transfer and R50 activation fee.
Vetting Homes: Breeders must make reasonable efforts to ensure buyers have the knowledge, time, and facilities to properly care for the dog.
Lifetime Commitment: Breeders must take lifelong responsibility for the dogs they produce. If a buyer can no longer keep a dog, the breeder must assist in rehoming the dog or be prepared to take the dog back.
Platform Transparency: Breeders must inform buyers that their digital Registration Certificate will be transferred via the Registra platform. The breeder must clearly communicate any applicable platform activation fees (such as the R50 unlocking fee) to the buyer prior to finalizing the sale.
5. Platform Integrity & Administration
TL;DR Summary
No falsifying data or misrepresenting purebreds. Administrative enforcement with suspension/ban rights. 21-day Final Administrative Review.
Data Honesty: Falsifying microchip numbers, uploading fraudulent lineage certificates, or intentionally misrepresenting parentage or breed status on the Registra platform is strictly forbidden.
Purebred Integrity: Registra is an exclusively purebred registry. Submitting a certificate for a dog that is not a verified purebred, or misrepresenting mixed-breed or unpapered dogs as purebreds, is a direct violation of this code and grounds for immediate account suspension.
Administrative Enforcement: The Registra Administrative Team reserves the absolute right to investigate reports of unethical behavior and suspend or permanently ban any entity found violating this Code of Ethics, in accordance with our Administrative Enforcement Procedure.
Final Review:In the event of a suspension or ban, the breeder has the right to submit a formal request for a Final Administrative Review within 21 days of receiving notice, after which the Administration's final ruling is absolute.
